About Maui Rescue Mission
A short-terms missions trip in October of 2015 to benefit Kumulani Chapel of Maui became the launching time and place for what has now become The Maui Rescue Mission.
Brian Nelson has a long history of facilitating Missions trips to benefit churches and pastors. He and his colleague, John Savage, were being hosted in Lahaina by Gary and Michele Lincoln who informed them that Maui had (and still has) the highest per capita of homelessness anywhere in the United States. Given the expertise that Brian and John bring to this arena, they were quickly “recruited” to meet others on the Island concerned about this issue.
After 23 months of research involving the issues and culture around homelessness on Maui, including dialog with nearly every agency that deals with the homeless and needy here, we have discovered that there is no one doing consistent outreach to engage those who are broken and lost…to build trust, to heal, and to build a path to a new life in Christ.
