LAHAINA, Hawaii (Island News) — The non-profit group Maui Rescue Mission (MRM) offers a mobile shower for the island’s houseless population, among other services. Nowadays the group is trying to help more of Maui’s houseless fire survivors – and they expect they’ll have to assist even more displaced people as hundreds are set to have to vacate hotel rooms.
“It’s kind of like preparing for a tidal wave, there’s really not a whole lot you can do to prepare. We have been trying to increase our capacity,” MRM Director Scott Hansen said.
The organization has taken on more staff members and bought more supplies, in addition to already offering the mobile shower equipped with a restroom and laundry room. But the group also tries to connect those in need with the necessary resources to help get them back on their feet.
